Plant nutrition: Photosynthesis

Plants make their own food, and to do this they need water, soil, sunlight and air. The roots absorb water and minerals from the soil. The water and minerals travel up the stem to the leaves.

Did you know plants make their food in the leaves?

This process is called photosynthesis. The leaves absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air. Using energy from the Sun, the carbon dioxide combines with water and minerals to make food. During the process of photosynthesis, plants release oxygen (O2) into the air, which we need to breathe.

Here's an experiment you can easily do at home!
